As a certified Pediatric Sleep Consultant, one of the the most popular questions I get asked is: Is the Snoo worth it? Should I buy the Snoo? Is it something that will help my baby sleep better? If you're also wondering about this, you're not alone

In this blog, I will give you a candid review of the Snoo, covering both the pros and cons so you can make a well-informed decision.

What is the Snoo Bassinet?

For those of you who aren't familiar with the Snoo, it's an innovative bassinet designed to help babies sleep better. The Snoo is designed for babies up to six months old and offers some great features that set it apart from traditional bassinets.

Here’s what makes the Snoo stand out:

Safe Sleep Positioning: The Snoo ensures your baby sleeps flat on their back, which is essential for safe sleep. It also uses special hooks to keep them in that position all night long.

Soothing Motion: The Snoo comes with a motion sensor that adjusts the rocking speed when your baby cries. This is a great help to calm them without you needing to get up.

Compact Design: Its sleek and compact design makes it an ideal choice for parents with limited space, especially if you’re sharing a room with your baby.

Price: At around $1,700, the Snoo is on the pricier side for bassinets. But, is it worth your investment? Here are the details for you to make things super easy.

Benefits of Using the Snoo

The Snoo offers a lot of benefits, especially for parents who want peace of mind about their baby’s sleep.

1. Safe Sleep: The Snoo keeps your baby in a safe, flat-back position, which helps reduce the risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). Super security is a relief for tired parents!

2. Convenient for Parents: The soothing motion helps comfort your baby when they’re fussy. So, you don’t have to rush to pick them up every time they cry. This gives you a little more time to rest and recover. This is "particularly" important for super exhausted parents needing an extra layer of security to ensure their baby is sleeping safely. The Snoo's flat-back sleep position helps reduce the risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), which every parent wants to avoid.

3. Room-Sharing Made Easy: Since the Snoo is compact, it can easily fit beside your bed. This means you can room-share with your baby, keeping them close without taking up too much space. Pediatricians recommend room-sharing for the first six months of a baby's life for safety reasons.

Many families I've worked with have shared that the Snoo made a real difference in how well their baby slept—and in how much sleep they were able to get. It can be a game-changer in those early months when sleep deprivation can feel overwhelming.

Drawbacks of the Snoo

Like any product, the Snoo has its downsides, and it's essential to be aware before deciding to buy. Like anything, the Snoo isn’t perfect. Here’s what to keep in mind:

1 Not Every Baby Loves It

Some babies simply don’t enjoy the Snoo’s rocking or swaddling. Every baby is different, and what soothes one might not work for another.

You won't know this until you try it, which can be frustrating, especially if you've already invested in the bassinet.

2. Not Ideal for Reflux Babies: The Snoo might not be the best choice if your baby suffers from reflux. Reflux babies need to be kept upright for a while after feeding to help with digestion. The Snoo's motion can make things tough for babies to keep their milk down. This can make your baby feel discomfort or even spit-ups.

3. The Price: At nearly $1,700, the Snoo is an investment. This is a significant expense for many families, especially considering babies only use it for a few months. While it might be worth the price for some, others may feel it could better fit their budget.

What Happens When Your Baby Outgrows the Snoo?

One of parents' biggest concerns is what happens after their baby outgrows the Snoo. It's an excellent tool for the first few months, but then what?

When it's time to transition your baby to a crib, some parents worry that their child might have trouble adjusting to a new sleep routine without the gentle rocking motion of the Snoo. However, this transition is just like any other sleep milestone—whether it's moving from a non-motion bassinet to a crib or transitioning from co-sleeping to a crib. The key is to be prepared and have a plan for how to help your baby adjust.

No matter what, children can learn to sleep in new environments and with new routines. So, while it may be challenging, it's not impossible. You need to be patient and consistent.

Is the Snoo Worth It?

After weighing the benefits and drawbacks, I can't say a definitive "yes" or "no" to whether the Snoo is worth it—it depends on your situation. Here are a few tips to help you decide:

1. Register for the Snoo: If you have generous friends or family, adding the Snoo to your baby registry might be a good idea. And, if you receive it as a gift, YAH Good luck with that.

2. Consider Borrowing: Since the Snoo is popular, you might be able to borrow one from a friend or family member who has already used it. This way, you can try it out and see if it works for your baby before making the purchase.

3. Do Your Research: Before you decide, take some time to check out the Snoo’s website. They offer helpful information about how the Snoo works, the science, and tips on getting the most out of the bassinet.

4. Consider Your Budget: The Snoo is definitely an investment. If you're worried about the cost, think about whether it’s worth spending that much for just a few months of use. There are other bassinets that offer similar features at a lower price, but they won’t have the same soothing motion.

Final Thoughts

The Snoo works wonders for many parents, but it’s not the right fit for everyone. It really depends on what works best for your baby and your family. It can be an excellent investment if the Snoo is within your budget and your baby likes the motion. But other options exist if it doesn't work for your baby or your family.

Whatever you decide, remember that there are plenty of ways to help your baby sleep well without breaking the bank. The most important thing is to find what works for your family and your baby's unique needs.
